Welcome to the Pinkie takes place in some of the parks and beaches around Grand Traverse, Benzie, and Leelanau counties in Michigan. I came up with the idea because amongst the chaos in the world I wanted to create a little slice of peace and serenity.
Stating this project I didn’t really have an idea for the story I wanted to tell. And with everyone being in quarantine, and the Nation Parks and trails here in Michigan closed, it made my options more limited than usual. It’s that point in the year where the weather is changing, so I knew I wanted to do something outside. After several emails back and forth with my professor, I formed the idea of a documentary style video showcasing some of the natural beauty around my area.
The next step was filming, refilming, editing, and more editing. I set out on some of the nicest days of the week with my portable charger, phone, and my skateboard. I started with some of my favorite trails, that aren’t part of the National Lakeshore, and started filming. I wasn’t quite sure how it would go since I don’t have much experience with video. So I filmed just about everything.
With nature itself being the subject it was a little difficult to decide what would be interesting and what I should leave out. And since I didn’t have access to the Lakeshore, I made due.
